This board is "basic", so we named it the "Basic Birch" (iykyk). This is a classic cutting/serving board, simply handshaped from a live edge slab of flame birch and sanded silky-smooth. This board isn't massive at 15.25" long x 8.5" wide x 1.75" thick, but would be perfect in a smaller kitchen or intimate setting where space may be limited. Birch, a domestic hardwood known for its durability and strength, ensures long-lasting use, while its slightly softer nature is excellent for the preservation of your knife edges. Because it is slightly softer, it will show wear from continued cutting, but with proper care this board will resist cracking and warping for ages. Over time, if you would like the board resurfaced, we would be happy to do that for you!
The "Basic Birch" Board
Hand wash with light soapy water when necessary and dry well. To ensure a long and healthy life, it's a good practice to wax/oil your board whenever it starts to dry out. This will help prevent cracking and keep the board looking great. Most board waxes are fine, just make sure it is food-safe. We make a food-safe Board Balm that conditions and protects your board. We will include a free sample in your order because we want your board to always look this good! Larger size Board Balm is available on our product page as well. Your board will arrive already mineral oiled and waxed, but we suggest a fresh waxing after a few months if needed.
To condition the board, rub a soft cloth in the wax and apply over every surface of the board. Let the wax set for about 15 minutes then buff it off with a dry cloth. The wax protects the board as well as shines it up.
