This lucky little koi fish has been meticulously hand-burned on light basswood with natural bark edges. The golden fish gracefully navigating through intricately stippled waves has been deeply burned, its surface painted in gold metallic watercolors, and the deep engravings have been further enhanced with rich black oil paint. Finally, the piece is finished with a glossy lacquer, enriching the details and the light reflecting off the koi's scales and fins. When the light hits the black waves, it really looks like sunlight glistening on waves. This piece took approximately one million years to make (or so it felt!) and I am happy to finally be able to send it to its new "pond" (a wall in your home). Piece measures roughly 8 3/4" x 8" x 7/8".
