Camphor is an absolutely stunning wood typically found in Australia and east/south Asia (it has spread to other parts of the world as well). It's a very uncommon wood to find in the US, we've only found it once and we scooped up all they had (which wasn't much!), so this board is pretty rare! It has phenomenal color, with streaks of red, orange, and yellow - and has a natural shimmer to the lighter tones. Camphor has a strong but pleasant scent, its oil is often used in chest rubs, balms, and medicine (ever heard of Tiger Balm?). The wood's smell will potentially dissipate over time (and the more you seal the board with wax), but you will LOVE how this makes your kitchen smell. Camphor is such an interesting wood - it is naturally antibacterial, antifungal, and insect-repelling! These features make Camphor ideal for use as a cutting/serving board, as well as the fact that it is very strong and durable. When taken care of, a camphor cutting board will last a lifetime. This satisfyingly silky smooth board measures 15" long x 10" wide x 1" thick. You will absolutely this piece...I can't stress enough how gorgeous the grain and color are, and its scent is heavenly.
